Basic Training

We pride ourselves in our ability to provide ongoing training to all of our Security Specialist in all areas of their duties.

All American West Security Specialists attend Pre-Employment (Pre-assignment) Basic Security Guard Training for a minimum of 16 hours, including specialized report writing & defensive baton and handcuffing techniques.

Each Security Specialist must be licensed by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) before beginning any work on a site. This licensing is accompanied by a stringent criminal background check as well as drug testing before employment.

To ensure our Security specialists are at their best, they are required to submit to annual physical exams to ensure they can meet the physical demands and potential hazards of security work.

Armed Security Specialist

Our Armed Security Specialist Training exceeds the state minimal standards of 16 hours. Extensive Armed Security Training not only includes the use of a firearm but shoot/no shoot scenario training, hand-to-hand, and extended classroom training.

Vehicle Patrol Security Specialist

Vehicle patrol is not just driving thru a property, or just sitting looking pretty, its more about looking for issues (transients, maintanece problem, lights out, water leaking ect.), been on site and been visible makes the biggest inpact for a lower price than a full time static guard.

Security K9 Specialist

Every K9 is paired with a professional handler, often with a background in law enforcement or military service, to undergo a rigorous and specialized training regimen. This program is designed to develop the highest level of proficiency in explosives and firearms detection. Training includes scenario-based exercises that mimic real-life threats. Our canine teams are not only skilled but also ready to adapt to the dynamic challenges they might face in the field.

American West Security K9 Detection Teams complete methodical training and meet rigorous independent testing and certification requirements, such as the National Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA).

Loss Prevention

With retail theft in the rise, our Loss Prevention Team has extensive training with CCTV, blending in with the regular customers and the ability to act fast to stop any major loss to your business.

Emergency Response Team (ERT)

The ERT is trained to respond to most calls that cannot wait for law enforcement, they are train to get the job done and document everything the situation no longer required and it can be handed over to Law enforcement or the property manager.

Anti-Crime Patrol Team (ACPT)

The ACPT is composed of American West Security Specialist and members of other security companies that work together to reduced crime on your property and be a visual deterrent, whether it be a residential neighborhood, apartment complex, office building or a shopping plaza, our team is trained to be polite and respectful to get transients off property as need it, but are not afraid to get there hand dirty when the situation calls for it.
